#### Design Goal - Durability and Portability One of the design goals for the [[Cornell Notes Learning Vault]]is that the Markdown documents using the Cornell Notes method continue to remain durable and portable. What does this mean? Simply put, documents you create with the Cornell Method and tools from the [[Cornell Notes Learning Vault]] are just Markdown files. You can open and edit these files in other programs or send these Markdown files to other users who do not have the [[Cornell Notes Learning Vault]] and they will be able to edit the document with no issue. The following three images demonstrate how this is done. 1. The [[Cornell Notes Learning Vault]] uses Callouts, a basic feature of Obsidian, and simple text that can be edited with any program. The following image shows a Cornell Notes document in Source mode. Notice the use of frontmatter and callouts? All standard Obsidian features. ![[CNLV - Markdown durability 01.png]] 2. How does this document look when in Preview mode? The following image shows the above document using the tools you get with the [[Cornell Notes Learning Vault]]. ![[CNLV - Markdown durability 02.png]] 3. What happens though if someone doesn't have the [[Cornell Notes Learning Vault]]? The following images show how this same document would render. As you can see, all the information is still there and the Callouts are doing their job as we would expect. ![[CNLV - Markdown durability 03.png]]
